Especially in TV and film.
When the script calls for sex, nudity, kink, LGBTQ+ content or any other kind of intimacy, it’s time to bring in an
Intimacy Coordinator (aka an IC).
But what is an IC?
An Intimacy Coordinator is on set to make sure that production is able to achieve the climactic vision they want, while allowing the actors to be safe and free to play within healthy boundaries. ICs allow everyone (creator and actor alike) to become comfortable and passionate about creating the desired intimate scenes without the fear of any discomfort.
PRE PRODUCTION
Setting the Mood
I like to start before the beginning, with the juiciest part: the script. It's important to see how the scene fits into the whole puzzle and communicate well with the visionaries in order to make the scene pop. This, by no means, takes the sizzle out but instead enhances it, while making sure everyone gets there safely and comfortably.
I also do all the dirty work! In my pre-production prep I take care of script review for any intimacy related scenes, nudity riders, boundary discussions with production and actors, consent and just helping make some sexy shots come together.
ON SET
The Mood
Okay, time to get frisky. But first what we do is have an intimate word with the actors about any and all concerns they might have and then communicate thoroughly with the directors to make sure no one feels they aren't being heard!
We then come up with solutions so that everyone can get down and dirty while feeling comfortable and confident in their performance.
What's more, we coordinate with wardrobe & make-up to make sure we have all the modesty garments & prosthetics on hand and ready to go!
Then it's shoot time! I'm there on the day for rehearsals and shooting. I'm available for any or all of the following, you just tell me what you need: safety monitoring, intimate nudity rider adhesion, boundary discussions & enforcement, closed set monitoring and intimacy choreography and more. Your production chooses what it needs from me to make sure everything rolls smoothly!

The Come Down
Yup! I'm still here. I can be available to view footage if necessary or to coach. the actors during ADR. I make sure everything is in line with productions desires and the established contracts. Everybody wins!

Kristina Sexton has been working in Los Angeles, and around the world, with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry as an acting coach and intimacy coordinator—she’s been doing it for years. Kristina has trained in LA, New York and London, earning a Bachelors degree in psychology, another Bachelors in Theatre Performance and an MFA in Performance from the California Institute of the Arts—it’s a mouthful. She has also spent time getting her hands dirty as a professional actress, writer and director. She is fluent in Spanish, Italian and English (yes, she is indeed fluent, she knows more than the curse words). Kristina has trained and worked with several prominent acting studios—she knows how to do it all—before venturing out on her own.
She now owns her own actor consultation company, On Set Coaching, where she is an Intimacy Coordinator, Dialogue & Acting coach. She works with all levels of actors and is an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. She draws on her extensive experience in the entertainment industry in order to offer hands-on, grounded and applicable advice.
Kristina spends her time working as an on set intimacy coordinator and dialogue coach on sets around the world. She also avails herself to private consultation and coaching online or in person (if you happen to be wherever she is at that time). She is primarily based out of the Gold Coast (Brisbane) in Australia, where she came to coach a film a few years ago and ended up with an Aussie husband. But she is always happy to travel for a great production!
